Janco Design Group Awards

In 2004 Nick Virgilio, CKD, CGR designed an exquisite bathroom that was awarded Signature Kitchens and Baths magazine's 2nd Place Award in the bathroom category. Here is what the magazine had to say about the design.

"With a true appreciation for relaxation and organization, the owner of this suburban Chicago home envisioned converting their cramped, four-bedroom upper level into a roomy, three-bedroom space. The owners hired designer Nick G. Virgilio, CKD, CGR, of Janco Design Group, Inc. to assume the challenge and make their dreams a reality.

The project focus was to create a master suite, which would include everything from a walk-in closet with built-in cabinetry to a spacious master bathroom. The challenge of this plan was in meeting all of the homeowners' desires by using only the existing space. After decisions were finalized for the bedroom, including new windows, beautiful oak hardwood floors, and a grand double-door entry, attention was then turned to the bathroom. By relocating the existing closet, enough room was created to more than double the size of the existing bathroom. This allowed for the new space to include a six-foot MTI Whirlpool tub, a four-foot neo-angle shower base, as well as a double vanity with a tall linen storage cabinet. The linen cabinet conceals a small television with a cable connection, allowing the homeowner to unwind in a pool of comfort in their new whirlpool tub. Installing two overhead skylights created plentiful natural light, which helped to accentuate the beautiful quartz countertops.

The focal pont of this bathroom is the gorgeous tile work. Both the walls and floor are covered with Florida Tile's porcelain Las Olas collection, with the layout created by the homeowners themselves. In the end, the homeowners are left with a spacious, luxurious ambiance in which they can relax and soak up the comforts of home."

It's nice to be recognized by one's peers. Especially in the highly competitive and esthetically critical field of kitchen and bath design. So when a respected magazine like Signature Kitchens and Baths singled out our work for a design award in their Fall/Winter 1999 Edition, we felt the need to brag a bit. Here is what they had to say:

"Wishing to restore the vintage feeling to this 1940s English Tudor purchased from her parents, these homeowners enlisted the design services of Nick Virgilio, of Kitchens & Baths by Janco Design Group, to return their small bath to its original '40s styling.

Remodeled originally by her father in 1972, the bath was set under the steep roof line of the Tudor-style gable above the front entry door, limiting its size to only 5x5 feet. There was also no natural light coming into the room due to the elimination of the original window during its last remodel. Virgilio solved these problems by relocating the right wall 30 inches outward and adding a vaulted ceiling, thereby increasing floor space as well as volume. This newly gained space was a perfect spot for the new claw-foot tub, while the space vacated by the former tub was used for a new mosaic tile shower and heavy glass enclosure. A new window in the old opening was now at the end of an 8-foot-long aisle down the center of the room. The 11-foot-high ceiling and new skylight help to give the room a larger, brighter feel. The vintage-style pedestal lavatory and toilet, complementing chrome fixtures, custom birch cabinetry, and a unique mosaic floor design combine beautifully to create a historic style of days gone by. For it is now what the homeowners refer to as "their favorite room in the house".

Remodeling Magazine named Janco Design Group one of the top 50 remodelers in 2002.
